The short answer is YES. In this article, we will show you that recruiting the right person for the job and the company is key.
Ever wonder what makes one company more successful than another when they appear to be exactly the same. Wonder no longer – people make companies successful (think Steve Jobs and Apple). But the reverse can also be said – people can also bring about a company’s failure. This is why recruiting the right person for the job and the company is vital.
Some of the biggest companies in the world spend an enormous amount of time and money recruiting and retaining their staff e.g. Google, Facebook etc.
Most companies do not have these resources but Achievers Resource Solutions do not believe you need limitless resources to still recruit and retain the best talent. We have always promoted the school of thought that you must match the person, the job and the company culture to get the right fit. However, you do need the right skills to identify and recruit the right employees.
So how do you select staff that will grow your business into the future?
Here are 3 core elements to recruiting the right staff
We are a long time in the people recruitment business so take it from us and stop hunting for perfection. There really is no such thing as the ‘perfect candidate’. However, you can mould the right candidate into the ‘perfect employee’. The right candidate consists of the correct qualifications, skills and expertise to do the job, the right attitude to fit into the company and plenty of potential to use the tools at their disposal to progress the job and ultimately impact on the company’s bottom line. See one of our previous blogs on Selecting staff for the long term for more tips on staff recruitment.
Take the time to write up a proper job specification. Don’t just reach for the specification you used for the last job you filled and make a few tweaks here and there. The job specification is what will attract the candidate. Therefore, match the job specification to the type of candidate you want to apply for the role. You need to make the role enticing but not misleading otherwise you will not attract suitable applications.
At Achievers Resource Solutions we firmly believe you get the best performance from employees when they ‘fit’ into the company. This is where company culture comes into play. While it might be difficult to define, every company has one whether you are fully aware of it or not. The culture of a company is made up of a number of elements, for example values, ethics, goals, work ethos, environment to name a few. It is very much driven by how your employees view the company. Matching candidates to your company culture is very important. Simply because most people work better in certain environments and cannot perform at all in others.
We call this fusion of the core three elements of recruitment – ‘the right fit’ and we strive to achieve the right fit for all our clients and candidates.
